Chinese Call to Israel for Agriculture, Science and Technical Collaboration

In response to China’s President, Hu Jintao, 2010 New Years address to the Chinese nation, (Central Document No. 1) stating that the development and modernization of the rural areas is China’s most important national priority, we the undersigned members of the Chinese delegation to the Israel - China Coordinating Council (IC3) Agriculture Sub Committee call on the relevant Israeli government departments and leaders, Israeli agriculture scientists and researchers, technology and product companies, agriculture related semi-government associations and other relevant people and organizations to put our shoulders together in long term, honest and strategic cooperation for mutual benefit rural development, industrial growth and profit for China and for Israel. China’s Axiomatic Role in Israel – Middle East Relations

At an Iran Crisis simulation held at the Inter Disciplinary Center in Herzelia this week, a star studded cast of ambassadors, former generals, experts and professors representing State and non-State actors played out the ‘responses’ to a flare up between Iran and Israel. I was asked to play the Chinese position in such a scenario, affording a front row view of some of the worryingly outdated attitudes of the Israeli (and American) participants. It was embarrassing to observe how out of touch the players were with the fast changing geo-political and economic fault lines underscoring the tensions. It was concerning that all seemed to misunderstand, did not care enough to understand, or chose to ignore Chinese interests and influence in Iran and the Middle East. Read more
